Risograph printing
History
Druk was the first company in the UK to specialise in Risograph printing as an artistic technique and is a world leader in terms of quality and innovation. Risographs were developed as a means of producing high volume prints at reasonably low cost, and were mostly used by churches, schools, prisons and political parties. They were not designed for high-end print, but over the years we have found ways to wrangle them to our advantage.
Overview
A stencil printer, also known as a Risograph, is an exciting piece of duplication technology. The machine creates a thermographic master plate for each colour in your artwork which is then wrapped around a drum. Ink is forced through the voids in the master. The paper runs through the machine while the drum rotates to print each image on the paper. We can produce high quality Riso prints using special colour ink, quickly and inexpensively.
Why use Riso?
The beauty of Riso printing is its warmth, character and vivid colour range. It is also cost effective for shorter run publications. Our goal has always been to put Riso printing on the same level as established print techniques, and this has been achieved over the last five years. Each print job has its own requirements and the best Riso projects are those that are designed with the process in mind.
OFFSET LITHO, DIGITAL AND INKJET PRINTING
Offset Litho
We can now offer Heidelberg offsetlitho printing, as well as high fidelity digital printing and inkjet printing for large posters, fine art editions and giclée prints.
Offset litho involves transferring ink from a plate to a rubber ‘blanket’ and then on to paper. It is an established high-end, high volume print technique. In the hands of experts with years of printing experience, litho is both versatile and accurate - capable of faithful reproduction in thousands of colours including fluorescents and metallics.
Mono and colour digital
Digital printing replaces oil-based litho inks and metal plates with a laser-written electrostatically charged drums and electro inks.
The image can change with every revolution of the printing units, which means we can offer cost effective solutions for small runs of collated books and cards which would be too expensive to print litho.
Our state-of-the-art KM presses, including a newly-installed KM1100, print in both mono and ‘full colour’ (CMYK) modes.
Inkjet printing
Our Epson wide format inkjet printing machines are ideal for one-off or small edition posters and art reproductions up to A0 in size. We combine professional repro and colour management with archival quality inks to print onto a huge variety of papers, including acid-free for true ‘giclée’.
Our inkjet machines can also be used to accurately ‘proof’ and experiment with concepts and artwork, without the expense of setting up a production press.
